The World Crafts Council AISBL (WCC)

Founded in 1964, the World Crafts Council (WCC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization. Its purpose is to strengthen the status of crafts as a vital part of cultural and economic life, to promote fellowship among the craftspersons of the world, to offer them encouragement, help, advice and foster economic development through income generating activities. In short, the WCC's mission seeks to bring crafts and craftspersons into the mainstream of life, connecting with the past through maintaining inherited traditions and looking into the future through the use of modern technology to experiment, innovate and reach out to new markets.

WCC members, in addition to involving in projects characteristic of each of the five regions (Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America), collaborate with each other and between regions in carrying out large-scale programmes. WCC members take part in a wide range of domestic and international activities, such as seminars, workshops, exhibitions, competitions, exchange programmes and specialist conferences that focus on many aspects of crafts.

WCC stresses on the need to give dignity, respect and self-esteem to the craftspersons, to make them celebrities, realizing that these people carry in their hands the living treasure of our cultural heritage. WCC strongly believes that a nation stays alive when its culture stays alive.

The WCC website provides information about the organization and its structure, membership and the activities of its members. It is updated regularly to include news items, topics, reports and a schedule of events in the international crafts sector.
